According to records obtained by the latest celebrity, the secondary causes of his death were the effects of alprazolam, sold under the brand Xanax, and difluoroethane, a compressed gas.

The coroner's report obtained by TMZ states that Aaron became "incapacitated while in the bathtub due to the effects" of the substances and subsequently drowned.

The case has been closed and his death was ruled an accident.

On November 5, 2022, Aaron, aged 34, was found unresponsive in his Southern California home by his house sitter, who promptly called the Lancaster station deputies.

While CPR was administered, the musician was pronounced dead upon the arrival of the deputies and fire department personnel.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department did not confirm Aaron's identity then.

Following Aaron's passing, many of his fans, fellow stars, and family members paid tribute, including his brother Nick Carter.

The Backstreet Boys member, who had a complicated relationship with Aaron, expressed his love for his brother and reflected on his battle with addiction and mental health struggles, which Aaron had spoken out about previously.

Nick recognized addiction and mental illness as the "real villain" and expressed his hope that Aaron had found the peace he desperately needed.

Aaron's death occurred almost a year after the birth of his son, Prince, with Melanie Martin, who expressed her appreciation for the outpouring of support from the public.
